Shevchuk Oleksii

Oleksii was born in 1962. He works in Kyiv. He is the founder of Artbuz art studio, architect, painter, sculptor, scene-designer.

Oleksii Shevchuk is the author of sculptures and miniature sculptural figures depicting nine characters from the works of Maria Prymachenko, the star of Ukrainian naïve art. His goal is to find out the planetary mission of these creatures, so the author assumes that the ornaments on these creatures are the encoded messages to future generations as allegorical formulas: Zebra means changes, Lion means nobility, Cow means welfare, Turtle means speed, Fox means wisdom. The installations are full of symbolism and allegories. The sculptures are made of hay — the simple, naïve and natural material, and resemble the multidimensional structure of the universe that consists of thin threads that tie the space together.

Oleksii Shevchuk has participated in numerous international exhibitions.
