Molchanov Henadii

Molchanov Henadii

Henadii was born in Mykolaiv in 1960. He graduated from the technical vocational college as a tailor of men’s and children’s outer clothing. He obtained incomplete higher education at the Kyiv Institute of Culture and Arts.

He is known as a writer and painter. Here is what he says about his path in art: “I created my first works 15 years ago. I just daubed paints on the canvas… Just whatever. I was learning… And today I’ve been told that I’m a painter — so be it! But I learned everything on my own — I’m a little offbeat. I’m not bragging — it actually makes your life harder! It’s better to think like everybody else and paint like everybody else. But I don’t.”

He went to war in Donbas in 2015. It was these events that inspired Henadii to create more actively. “It is a disease. If you have a desire, or you’ve seen an image or some dream, or you’ve had an impulse — you won’t get away from it. You can’t think about anything else. It hits you very hard until you actually put it all in a book or a book on the canvas. When I write, for example, I found myself in another world. I have my own cosmos and I try to convey it in books and “books on canvases.”

Henadii says jokingly that the style he creates in is called “Henadii Molchanov’s style”.
