Holovan Mykola

Mykola was born into the workers’ family in Lutsk in 1943. He studied at the Teremne general secondary school, then at the Ivan Trush Lviv Vocational College of Decorative and Applied Arts during 1959–1965. He opened the first personal exhibition in Promin movie theater which demonstrated sculpture, painting and graphic art.

He had worked as a sculptor at the Art Foundation of Ukraine for 8 years and at the art training center for 22 years. He participated in the sculptural plein air Memory through Ages in Lutsk (2001) and the garden culture plein air in France (2002).

Mykola Holovan created with his own hands the composition for the Lesia Ukrainka Lutsk city cultural and recreational park, elements of Miracle children’s town, memorial for the executed prisoners in Lutsk, monuments for fallen soldiers in Afghanistan in Lyniv village, Lokachi district, Volyn oblast, high cross in the National Historical and Memorial Reserve The Field of the Battle of Berestechko.

Holovan’s house which he also built himself is among top five most extraordinary buildings of Ukraine.

Sculptor Mykola Holovan was awarded the status of Honorary Freeman of Lutsk for his considerable contribution to the development of the esthetic and high art environment of Lutsk city and the popularization of visual arts.
