Buiak Petro

Petro was born in Ivano-Frankivsk city. He is primarily known as a researcher of Ivano-Frankivsk region. He complements his travel blogs, podcasts and performances on historical and regional ethnography topics with artistic reflections. However, he did not come to art at once.

In his biography, he mentions a short yet intense trip to Kyiv in search of better fortune, as well as that he had to work at humdrum jobs that were far from creative: at a repair shop which he was fired from, as a loader at a market, electrician, photo printing clerk, and a general laborer in construction. At first, he painted “for himself,” but after meeting Taras Keb who helped him organize his first exhibition he got even keener on it.

All Buiak’s art projects are intended to study and represent the many aspects and various dimensions of his native land. From historical and mysterious plots to fantasy landscapes. Along with painting, the artist creates performances based on local legends and stories spiced with acute social topics and urban decorations.
